Sokoto Government to Turji: Back Your Words with Action, End Attacks, Free Captives

Katsina state government

The Sokoto State Government has called on notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, to show true commitment to peace by halting violent assaults on rural communities and releasing all civilians still held in captivity.

This appeal was made on Sunday by the Security Adviser to the Governor, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), in response to an audio message reportedly from Turji, where the wanted bandits’ leader expressed readiness to embrace peace and urged fellow armed groups to follow his lead.

While acknowledging the potential significance of the message, Usman stated that peace efforts will only be taken seriously if backed by clear and sincere actions on Turji’s part.

“Statements alone do not create peace. If Turji is sincere, he must immediately stop all forms of violence and unconditionally free those in his custody,” Usman said.

He emphasized that the Sokoto State Government remains committed to tackling insecurity using a comprehensive strategy, but will not be misled by unverified promises or symbolic gestures.

“Our doors are open to genuine peace, but we won’t compromise on security or fall for superficial declarations. Concrete action is the only currency that matters in this conversation,” the retired colonel added.

He further assured that the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu will continue to stand firmly with security agencies and local communities to safeguard lives and property.

“This government refuses to be moved by propaganda. Peace must be earned through verifiable and consistent actions, not merely talked about in audio recordings,” Usman declared.
