MOKWA, NIGER STATE – A tragic boat mishap in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State has left six people dead, while one passenger remains missing.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on March 16, 2025, when a canoe carrying 11 passengers from Chegama Village’s rice farm to Rwakwa Village capsized, plunging all onboard into the water.
Local divers and emergency responders managed to rescue four survivors, but six victims—Zaliya Aliyu, Hajara Mohammed, Amina Yakotsu, Fatima Ahmed, Lare Idris, and Ahmed Mohammed—were recovered lifeless and laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
Search efforts are still underway to locate the missing passenger, as authorities intensify rescue operations in the area.
