Nigeria is reeling from a scandal that has sent shockwaves through the nation, following the arrest of Alhaji Bashir Hadejia, a former special adviser to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. Hadejia, who once held a prominent role as a close aide to Matawalle during his tenure as Zamfara State Governor, was taken into custody by security operatives under a search warrant issued on August 12, 2024. The arrest, which has been shrouded in secrecy, has raised significant concerns, with many questioning the severity of the charges and the real motives behind the case.

Damning Evidence Surfaces

In the wake of Hadejia’s arrest, a series of explosive photos and videos have emerged on social media, further deepening the scandal. One particularly shocking video shows Hadejia flaunting a gold bar with the image of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. In the clip, Hadejia is heard bragging about possessing one tonne of gold, with thirteen boxes labeled “Central Bank of Libya” filled with the precious metal.

Adding fuel to the fire, another photo, now viral, captures Hadejia alongside Matawalle, presenting gold bars to former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020. These revelations have raised questions about Hadejia’s close ties to top government officials and the nature of his dealings.

Northern Elders Forum Demands Accountability

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has not remained silent in the face of these shocking revelations. Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, speaking on behalf of the forum, expressed deep concern over the implications of Hadejia’s arrest. Describing the situation as “appalling,” Suleiman warned that the criminal activities linked to Hadejia pose a severe threat to Nigeria’s stability and sovereignty.

Suleiman commended the Nigerian security agencies for their swift action but emphasized that this arrest is only the tip of the iceberg. He called for a thorough investigation to dismantle the entire network allegedly connected to Hadejia, which includes gun-running, smuggling, and ties to international criminal syndicates.

A Call for Justice

As more details emerge, the outrage continues to grow. Hadejia’s connections to influential figures, including a former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) and other top officials, have raised alarm bells across the nation. The Northern Elders Forum is now calling for decisive action to ensure that justice is served and that no one is above the law.

With Nigeria’s stability at stake, the nation watches closely as this scandal unfolds, demanding accountability from those in power.
