Serial ATM Fraudster Nabbed in Uyo With Seven Stolen Cards

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial ATM thief and fraudster, Chibuzor Amaechi, for allegedly swapping ATM cards and illegally withdrawing funds from unsuspecting victims across two states.

According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, operatives swung into action on Saturday, July 26, following a distress call from two commercial banks in Uyo. The suspect had been captured on CCTV engaging in suspicious activities at the ATM gallery on Abak Road.

Amaechi, a native of Ubima Village in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, was immediately apprehended by officers at the scene. A search of his person revealed seven ATM cards belonging to different individuals, all suspected to be stolen.

In a video confession obtained by the police, Amaechi admitted to operating alone and carrying out his fraudulent schemes in both Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.

One of his victims, a resident of Ikot Inyang Village in Ibiono Ibom LGA, has already stepped forward, identifying the suspect and providing a formal statement.

The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will face prosecution upon conclusion.

The Command has urged members of the public to remain vigilant at ATMs and report any suspicious activity immediately.
