Senator Ali Ndume has voiced his dissatisfaction over the recent increase in electricity tariffs, citing concerns about the timing and the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Senator Ndume emphasized that Nigerians are still grappling with the aftermath of the fuel subsidy removal and other economic difficulties. He stressed the need for the federal government to consider these challenges before implementing such policies.

“The timing of this hike is very wrong. Nigerians are grappling with many challenges. To put this fresh responsibility on them is very unfair,” Senator Ndume stated.

He also highlighted the importance of consultations, especially with the National Assembly, as representatives of the people. Expressing disappointment over the lack of consultation, he emphasized the need for realistic measures to improve the purchasing power of Nigerians before introducing additional burdens.

“The federal government needs to give the National Assembly the opportunity to also step in and consult because we represent the people. We feel their pulse, and we know what they’re going through right now,” Senator Ndume added.

As discussions on economic policies continue, Senator Ndume’s remarks reflect the concerns and sentiments of many Nigerians regarding the impact of tariff hikes on their daily lives.
