Senator Bomai Dismisses Defection Rumours,

Borno State Government

Senator representing Yobe South senatorial under the ruling party APC Senator Mohammed Ibrahim Bomai, has denied rumours that a recent meeting of party aspirants in Abuja was a plot to defect to the opposition party ADC.

Bomai stated this in a statement on Thursday, and he said, on behalf of the coalition of APC governorship aspirants in Yobe State, clarified that the meeting was convened solely to demand fairness, transparency, and a level playing field in the party’s upcoming primaries, in line with the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act respectively.

He described claims of an impending defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as “entirely false, baseless, and without any foundation.”

“Obviously I remain a committed, loyal, and steadfast member of the APC,” Bomai said.

Bomai recounted joining the APC in 2019 when the party was in opposition in Yobe South, and how collective efforts helped the APC win nearly all elective seats in 2019 and consolidate power in 2023, losing only one House of Representatives seat.

Therefore he called on party leadership to avoid imposition of candidates and ensure every aspirant has a fair and equal opportunity.

If a consensus option is adopted, he insisted it must be transparent and inclusive of all aspirants and stakeholders to preserve unity and electoral prospects.

“I reiterate my absolute loyalty to the APC and my readiness to abide by its principles of fairness, justice, and strict adherence to the Constitution and the Electoral Act,” he added” accordingly.
