Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro has attributed the People’s Democratic Party’s PDP loss in the 2023 presidential election to the selection of Ifeanyi Okowa as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate, asserting that Okowa actively sought the vice-presidential nomination and failed to deliver his home state.
In a recent interview on Channels TV, Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South, criticized former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the PDP’s defeat in the 2023 presidential election. Moro claimed that Okowa lobbied for the vice-presidential slot and should accept responsibility for the party’s loss .
Moro’s remarks were in response to Okowa’s admission during an Arise TV interview that he regretted accepting the vice-presidential nomination, acknowledging that it contradicted the zoning expectations and sentiments of his constituents .
Highlighting Okowa’s inability to secure Delta State for the PDP, Moro suggested that the party might have fared better with a different southern candidate. He emphasized that Okowa’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) further underscores his lack of commitment to the PDP .
This internal party dispute has intensified discussions about the PDP’s strategic decisions in the 2023 election and the implications for its future cohesion and electoral prospects.
