Party Accuses Former Kaduna Governor of Destabilization Attempt, Anti-Party Activities

In a political bombshell, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, slamming him with a 30-year ban from all party activities over what it described as a calculated attempt to hijack and destabilize the party from within.

The dramatic decision was announced by the SDP National Working Committee after an emergency meeting on Monday, where party leaders accused El-Rufai of engaging in “anti-party activities, manipulation, and divisive politics” aimed at undermining the SDP’s core structures and democratic values.

According to the statement, El-Rufai allegedly attempted to infiltrate party ranks with loyalists, influence leadership changes, and use the SDP as a platform for personal political ambition — all without following due process.

“This is a firm message to all — the SDP will not be a dumping ground for power seekers or a vehicle for political hijack,” the party said.

The move comes amid growing speculation about El-Rufai’s next political move following his fallout with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Political analysts view the expulsion as both a defensive strike and a signal that the SDP is not open for takeover bids.

With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, the dramatic fallout may just be the beginning of a new chapter in Nigeria’s political realignment.
