Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on Tuesday got commendation from expert for his vision to embrace the multi – national aviation company ready to establish light aircraft assembling plant in Benin, the state capital.
The praise comes strong on the heels of the strident cry of the supporters of the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state that has dismissed the initiative as another white elephant project just as they condemn the Ramat Park Flyover flagged off recently by Governor Okpebholo.
The university don however described the project expected to be financed by South African company among others as a welcome development in the fight against unemployment and dwindling revenue available to all levels of government in Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview ABC NEWS, the sociologist cum economist lauded Okpebholo’s success at influencing the investment decision of the aviation company operating in the global economy to invest Edo State.
According to him, the present administration’s decision to limit the government’s commitment in the project to sponsorship of the training of Edo youths as pilots, mechanics and other skills in the aviation value-chain when the assembly plant had come on stream could not be faulted.
The scholar also urged that the state government should not rest on it’s oars in making Edo an aviation hub, while attracting more investors to the state.
