SBMC Recognizes Personality Who Contributed In Changing Education Narrative

In a Milestone Ceremony, the School Base Management Committee managing one of the second Generation Primary School established in Tsohon Nguru Community of Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State has awarded a prestigious ward to a deserving Education Secretary of the Local Education Authority, (LGEA), Mallam Hamisu Ado.

The colourful ceremony was held within the vicinity of the LGEA secretariat.

Presenting the award to the awardee, the Nguru Local Government School Base Management Committee Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Maina Laminu aided by the Chairman, Ngelewa Chapter of the SBMC, Alhaji Mustapha Dabuwa alongside his Secretary Alhaji Baba Kadai Kafinta.

The Chairman stated that, ” as the representative of Ngelewa School Community, we identify with you in all the efforts and sacrifices you are making towards the revitalizing Education Sector in Nguru particularly what you done deserved more than what we are offering, it’s just to show our gratitude for a wonderful performance “.

“Infact we don’t have the right words to describes your Starling Qualities but we will continue to pray for Allah’s protection”.

Maina added, ” this Award Of Excellent is a testimony that as the Education Secretary, Nguru LGEA, you Performed Excellently in Leadership, you also shown a pragmatic Commitment towards improving the learning outputs of our school children within a very short time of your stay”.

Responding, Alhaji Hamisu Ado begins by praising Allah for given him and his team the courage and wisdom to turn around the lost glory of Education in Nguru town and beyond within a short period.

Ado said, ” all the successes recorded was as a result of contribution and support we enjoyed from stakeholders.”

” Therefore, we are grateful to Yobe State Government, Ministry for Basic And Secondary Education, State Universal Basic Education Board, International Non Governmental organizations ( INGOs), and any other stakeholder who contributed in one way or the other.”

History of Education in Nguru Local Government

Nguru Local Government is an ancient town in old Kanem-Borno.

The headquarters of the local government is located at Ngilewa, Nguru town.

History of education in Nguru could be traced to 18th century when different scholars migrated to seek for knowledge in the town.

The Islamic scholars of 19th Century such as Sheikh Muhammad Ngibrima, Sheikh Usman Al-Fullaty, Sheikh Imam Ainoma, Liman Ahmad and Sheikh Ayuba among others contributed immensely towards the development of Islamic Education, Jurisprudence, Theology, and Exegesis.

However, the history of western education in Nguru local government on the other hand, began at the early arrival of the Christian missionaries who established the first school, Saint Augustine now Kasugula Primary School in 1929.

This was followed by the second missionary school Saint Paul, now Bulabulin Primary school in the year 1931.

Later In the year 1932, a British Ambassador visited Nguru town for the official commissioning of Nguru Railway Station.

As a tradition, the Ambassador visited Emir of Nguru at his palace, during which he emphasized the importance of western education and advocated for more schools.

Building on the already established culture of educating their people, the Emir and the relevant authorities at that time, facilitated the establishments of first public primary school i.e.

Central Primary School Nguru in the year 1937 followed by Ngilewa Primary School in 1947.
