The Nigeria Police Force in Yobe State has issued a strong warning to residents to desist from raising false alarms during Sallah festivities, following panic incidents recorded at Eid prayer grounds.
In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkareem, the police expressed concern over recent cases where false alerts sparked fear among worshippers, creating chaotic situations with the potential for stampedes and injuries.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, cautioned that such actions not only erode public confidence but could also lead to tragic consequences if not checked.
He advised members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, urging anyone who notices suspicious movements or objects to quietly alert security operatives for swift and coordinated response, rather than causing panic.
The Command also warned against the spread of unverified information, particularly on social media, stressing that misinformation can fuel unnecessary fear and disrupt public order.
Eid ground committees were further directed to collaborate closely with security agencies to ensure proper planning, crowd control, and safety measures, as adequate personnel will be deployed across prayer venues in the state.
While congratulating the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of Ramadan, CP Ado called for collective responsibility, emphasizing that cooperation with security agencies remains key to ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration across Yobe State.
