A routine Sunday afternoon landing turned dramatic at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport after a T’way Air Boeing 737-8GJ lost a tire upon touchdown, forcing the temporary closure of the airport’s north runway and disrupting 14 flights.

Airport authorities said the aircraft, arriving from Jeju Island, touched down at 3:52 p.m. when the right main landing gear tire detached.

Despite the incident, the jet maintained stability and safely taxied to parking stand A2, coming to a full stop just two minutes later at 3:54 p.m.

Crucially, no injuries were reported, and all passengers disembarked safely—an outcome aviation observers credit to swift crew response and established safety procedures.

The airport operator confirmed that the incident was immediately reported to the Civil Aviation Administration (Taiwan), the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (Taiwan), and the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board, in line with regulations governing aircraft incidents and major occurrences.

While the affected runway has since been managed and operations restored, the incident briefly rippled through flight schedules, underscoring how even minor mechanical failures can disrupt busy international hubs.

For passengers on board, it was an unexpected scare—but one that ended safely, reinforcing aviation’s layered safety systems when they matter most.
