In a shocking twist of royal tragedy, the Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 58-year-old Abubakar Aminu, popularly known as Galadima, over the alleged murder of his younger brother, Sani Yusuf, in Zaria.
The suspect, linked to the revered Zazzau royal family through the late Iyan Zazzau, was apprehended on April 10, 2025, in Zaria City’s Rimintsiwa area following a week-long manhunt.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the fatal assault occurred on April 4, after Yusuf accused Abubakar of stealing N15,000. Enraged, Abubakar reportedly slammed his brother’s head against a wall multiple times, leaving him unconscious and bleeding from the nose and mouth.
In an attempt to cover up the crime, Abubakar allegedly wrapped the victim’s face, lied to relatives that he was asleep, and fled the scene. The victim was later found in a pool of blood and rushed to a private clinic, which declined admission, before being taken to ABU Teaching Hospital, Shika. Sadly, Yusuf succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of April 10.
The body has since been buried according to Islamic customs.
Police have confirmed the suspect is in custody and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kaduna. However, sources say high-level pressure is mounting to quietly bury the matter.
Zagazola Makama will continue to monitor developments as the pursuit of justice unfolds in the heart of the Zazzau Emirate.
