Rivers APC Slams Impeachment Plot, Warns Against Political Firestorm

Borno State Government

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected moves to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, describing the reported plan as “untenable” and a dangerous gamble that could plunge the state into needless turmoil.

In a strongly worded reaction on Wednesday, the opposition party cautioned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly against what it termed “political brinkmanship,” warning that any attempt to destabilise the executive arm would come at a steep cost to peace, governance and development in Rivers State.

The APC said impeachment is a grave constitutional process that must not be reduced to a tool for settling political scores or advancing narrow interests. It stressed that the state is already grappling with economic and security challenges that demand unity and responsible leadership, not distractions fueled by power struggles.

According to the party, the focus of lawmakers should be on legislation that improves the welfare of citizens rather than actions that could heighten tension and undermine democratic stability.

The APC urged all political actors to exercise restraint, respect the rule of law and place Rivers State above partisan calculations, warning that history would not be kind to those who choose chaos over constructive engagement.

As the controversy brews, the party reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and called on stakeholders to allow governance to proceed without threats of impeachment hanging over the state like a political storm cloud.
