Prominent Islamic scholars and northern leaders have expressed deep concern over the growing wave of violence and insecurity across Nigeria, warning that the country risks sliding into chaos if urgent steps are not taken.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, alongside other Muslim leaders, made the call during a meeting on the state of the nation held in Sokoto.
They lamented the increasing cases of killings, kidnappings, and attacks in many parts of the country, particularly in the North, stressing that the situation has left many communities living in fear.
According to the leaders, the persistent insecurity threatens national stability, economic development, and the unity of the country. They urged all stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious institutions, to join hands in finding lasting solutions.
They also appealed to Nigerians to remain calm and avoid actions that could worsen the tension, while calling for renewed prayers and unity in confronting the security challenges facing the nation.
