Residents of Sabuwar Abuja Quarters Appeal to Katsina Government Over Prolonged Power Outage

Borno State Government

Residents of Sabuwar Abuja Quarters, located behind Barhim Housing Estate in Katsina metropolis, have appealed to the Katsina State Government to urgently intervene in resolving the prolonged power outage that has plunged their community into darkness for several months.

Speaking to journalists in Katsina, the community leader, Alhaji Usman Muhammad Al-Kasim, said the area has been without electricity for over three to four months, a situation that has crippled small-scale businesses and affected daily life.

He explained that many residents, especially youths engaged in trades such as laundry services, barbing, and the production of ice blocks and cold drinks, have been struggling to survive due to the lack of electricity.

According to him, the problem began after some residents built houses directly under high-tension power lines connected to a 33KV transformer, which has since caused serious disruptions and safety concerns.

Alhaji Usman appealed to the government to step in by providing compensation to affected homeowners so they can relocate to safer areas. He warned that allowing people to continue living under high-voltage cables poses a great risk to lives and property.

He further urged the authorities to construct an access road behind the estate — a stretch of less than one kilometer — to improve movement and ease transportation challenges faced by residents.
