The House of Representatives has called for the suspension of the West African Examination Council’s planned Computer-Based Examination (CBE) scheduled to commence in 2026, citing inadequate facilities and poor preparedness.
The resolution followed a motion of urgent national importance sponsored by Hon. Kelechi Nwogu, who warned that the recent technical glitches which forced WAEC to shut down its 2025 result portal showed that Nigeria was not yet ready for the digital transition.
Lawmakers urged the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC to suspend the policy until proper infrastructure and training are in place to prevent widespread disruption and disenfranchisement of students.
In the same sitting, the House also decried the deplorable sanitary conditions in parts of the Federal Capital Territory and raised alarms over security threats posed by non-functional streetlights across Abuja.
An ad-hoc committee was subsequently set up to investigate waste management failures and the poor state of streetlights in the FCT, with a mandate to recommend urgent legislative and executive interventions.
