Healthcare workers in Kaduna State have expressed delight over Governor Uba Sani’s decision to fully implement the 2024 Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) alongside hazard allowances, effective September 2025.
The Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Kaduna chapter, Comrade Ishaku Yakubu, described the development as “a long-awaited breakthrough” and a turning point for nurses in the state. He recalled how unfulfilled promises by past administrations often triggered strikes and disrupted healthcare delivery, stressing that the governor’s action had restored confidence among workers.
Yakubu applauded Governor Sani’s political courage in tackling issues of welfare that had lingered for years and urged the government to maintain consistency in payment to sustain the new policy.
The NANNM State Council equally lauded the move, noting that it reflected fairness and compassion while proving that the administration values the sacrifices of health workers. According to the union, the approval has lifted morale among nurses and positioned Kaduna as an example of worker-friendly leadership in Nigeria.
This latest reform complements other measures in the health sector, including the full rollout of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for doctors. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kaduna branch, also applauded the governor for approving the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund, making Kaduna the first state to release the package to resident doctors.
