PDP Youth Leader for North-West Alhaji Atiku Muhammad Yabo,Kicks Against the Calls For the Party Not to Field Atiku Abubakar or a Northerner in the 2027 Election.
A PDP Zonal Youth Leader for North-West zone Alhaji Atiku Muhammad Yabo has described Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse’s call for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) not to field Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate in the 2027 election as not only irrelevant but also an unwarranted attempt to sideline an experienced and capable leaders from the North.
Yabo said their attention has been drawn to a news story on a national daily news paper, in which a Lagos State PDP chieftain Dr. Adetokumbo Pearse suggested that only a candidates from the west zone and those from the north should be excluded from the race based on his previous attempts or his regional background.
According to him this untimely call does a disservice to the democratic process and undermines the principles of fair competition.
Alhaji Atiku Muhammad who also hold the traditional title of Sarkin Yakin Yabo said based on experience and leadership, Atiku Abubakar has demonstrated immense political experience and leadership in Nigeria.
” Having served as Vice President of Nigeria for eight years, Atiku has a deep understanding of the country’s governance structures and the challenges it faces”
His experience is invaluable, and the argument that he should be excluded because of past election losses does not take into account as the importance of continuity in leadership and the need for experienced hands, especially in a time of complex national issues always matters most.
He opined that In a democracy, political parties should be free to select their candidate based on the will of the people, and voters should have the right to choose from a wide pool of qualified candidates.as such Dr. Pearse’s call to exclude Atiku because of his previous attempts is an affront to this democratic principle.
Wazirin Adamawa he noted remains a formidable candidate, and it is the electorate that should determine his suitability, not any individual’s personal opinions or calls for exclusion.
On Broad National Appeal, yabo said Atiku Abubakar has consistently demonstrated his ability to appeal to a broad spectrum of Nigerians across regions, ethnicities, and religions. His political ideology and campaign platforms focus on national unity, economic reforms, and addressing the concerns of all Nigerians.
His candidacy would not only be a reflection of his political capacity but also a recognition of the need for a leader who can unite the country in these challenging times.
The PDP zonal leader for North-West however called on the leadership of the party that excluding any candidate based on past attempts or regional origin will only reinforces the divide between regions and stifles inclusivity.
He strongly warned the party that Dr. Pearse’s call could set a dangerous precedent where only certain individuals are allowed to participate in the electoral process, undermining the principles of democracy and free choice.
” Instead of focusing on calls for exclusion, the PDP and other political parties should be prioritizing the broader issues that affect the nation security, economic stability, education, and healthcare. Atiku Abubakar’s past experience and commitment to reform make him a key player in addressing these challenges”
Yabo said the PDP should evaluate Wazirin Adamawa’s candidacy on the basis of his ability to lead and his vision for the future of Nigeria, rather than prematurely dismissing him.
He added that Dr. Pearse’s call for the PDP not to field Atiku Abubakar in 2027 is misguided as It is important for the party to focus on selecting the best candidate based on experience, competence, and the ability to unite Nigeria.
Atiku’s past campaigns, while significant, he emphasized should not disqualify him from another bid, especially when the nation is in dire need of a leader with his depth of experience and vision for a stronger Nigeria.
