Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a suspected drug dealer during a swift intelligence-led raid on a criminal hideout, reinforcing the command’s crackdown on illicit drug activities.
The operation followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, who ordered sustained intelligence-driven raids to dismantle criminal networks across the state.
Police patrol teams, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the suspected hideout at about 7:30 a.m. on March 14. The sudden arrival of the security operatives caused panic among several suspects, many of whom fled the scene.
However, the primary target of the operation, identified as Michael Ibok of Ituak Abang Village, was successfully apprehended during the raid.
A quick search conducted by the operatives reportedly led to the recovery of a wrapped quantity of illicit substance suspected to be Indian hemp from the suspect.
Confirming the development, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, said the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of his alleged criminal activities and track down other fleeing accomplices.
The police reiterated their commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations to combat drug-related crimes and ensure the safety of residents across Akwa Ibom.
Authorities also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that could help security agencies identify and arrest criminals hiding within communities.
