In a bold move to safeguard Katsina State’s forest reserves, Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has directed the immediate recruitment of 70 Forest Guards. These new recruits, to be employed on Grade Level 01, will play a pivotal role in curbing illegal activities in the state’s forests.

The Governor’s directive follows a damning report on unlawful allocations of forest reserves from 2017 to 2023. To address the situation, the guards will be strategically stationed across Local Government Areas in affected zones under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. Their mission: regular surveillance to combat illegal encroachments and unauthorized tree felling.

Governor Radda also revealed plans to establish specialized courts to handle forest conservation violations exclusively. These eco-courts will ensure speedy prosecution of offenses like illegal logging and encroachment.

“This initiative underscores our administration’s unwavering commitment to preserving Katsina’s natural heritage,” the Governor affirmed.

With these measures, Katsina State is setting a new benchmark for environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
