…Katsina SEC also adopts 2026–2027 fiscal framework, secures 780 hectares for Federal Housing Scheme
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved the payment of over ₦500 million as compensation to residents affected by the Modoji/Bakuru Federal Housing Project, alongside a raft of strategic decisions aimed at boosting infrastructure, security and economic development across the state.
The approvals were reached during the 11th Regular Meeting of the Katsina State Executive Council (SEC) held on Wednesday at the Government House, Katsina.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Dr. Faisal Kaita, said the compensation covers owners of acquired lands, residential buildings, farmlands and economic trees affected by the Federal Housing Project.
He explained that the payment reflects Governor Radda’s commitment to justice, due process and ensuring that citizens do not bear the burden of government development projects without adequate compensation.
Dr. Kaita further disclosed that the state has now secured over 780 hectares of land for the Federal Housing Project following approvals granted at the 10th and 11th Executive Council meetings.
The Council also approved land allocation for the proposed Agro-Processing Zone at Tashar Bala, an initiative expected to stimulate agro-industrialisation, promote value addition and create employment opportunities for thousands of residents.
In a move to strengthen fiscal management, the Executive Council adopted the 2026–2027 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) as the foundation for the state’s budget preparation and economic planning.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Malik Anas, said the framework would improve budget credibility, strengthen fiscal discipline, promote transparency and ensure efficient allocation of public resources through evidence-based planning.
The Council equally approved the construction of a semi-bridge on the Ruma–Daneji Road in Sandamu Local Government Area, a project jointly funded by the state government and the State and Local Government Joint Account.
According to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Bashir Tanimu, the bridge will improve rural access, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and stimulate commercial activities in the area.
In what observers described as a major grassroots security initiative, the Council also approved the institutionalisation of monthly security meetings involving traditional rulers at ward, village, district, local government and state levels.
Special Adviser on Local Government and Inspectorate, Hon. Lawal Rufai Safana, said the meetings would serve as an organised platform for intelligence gathering, early warning, conflict prevention and stronger collaboration between traditional institutions, security agencies and government.
The Executive Council noted that the far-reaching decisions reflect Governor Radda’s determination to pursue people-centred governance through strategic infrastructure development, prudent financial management, improved security and inclusive economic growth aimed at building a safer and more prosperous Katsina State.
