VC Hails Governor’s Commitment to Education, Legacy
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has assured Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, of his administration’s support for the renovation of the institution’s Central Chemistry Laboratory, to be named in honour of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Governor Radda gave the assurance on Friday while hosting ABU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, and his delegation at Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina.
Describing the project as noble and deserving, the Governor—himself an ABU alumnus—said it was the duty of graduates to give back to the university that shaped their careers.
“As alumni, we owe ABU a responsibility. The university shaped us, and it is only right that we continue to support its growth and excellence,” Radda stated.
He stressed that universities like ABU remain vital to Nigeria’s intellectual development, producing leaders, innovators, and researchers driving national progress. According to him, supporting such institutions is both goodwill and an investment in the future of education and human capital.
Radda reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening higher education in Katsina State through partnerships, research collaborations, and infrastructural support, insisting Nigerian universities must remain globally competitive.
The Governor praised the ABU management for their vision, noting that immortalizing President Yar’Adua through the Chemistry Laboratory was a fitting tribute to the late leader’s legacy.
Earlier, ABU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, explained that the renovation was designed to honour the late President, an accomplished alumnus of the Chemistry Department. He disclosed that despite challenges, ABU had maintained its reputation, being ranked in 2025 as the best public university in Nigeria by Times Higher Education and recognized by JAMB as the country’s leading public university.
He further sought the state government’s intervention in rehabilitating internal road networks as part of activities marking ABU’s 63rd anniversary.
Prof. Ahmed praised Katsina indigenes, including members of Governor Radda’s cabinet, for their contributions to the university’s growth and commended the Governor for sustaining and deepening Yar’Adua’s legacy.
“Your Excellency, in your own stride, you have not only sustained these legacies but deepened them. We remain proud of your leadership and pray for your continued success,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
