Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has declared open the All Progressives Congress (APC) North-West Zonal Public Hearing on the ongoing Constitution Review and Amendment Exercise, urging members to use the process to strengthen internal democracy, inclusiveness, and party discipline.

The event, held at the Banquet Hall of the Muhammadu Buhari Government House, drew APC leaders and stakeholders from across the North-West zone — including members of the National Assembly, Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, State Chairmen, and members of the Constitution Review Committee — to deliberate on proposed amendments aimed at deepening transparency, accountability, and unity within the ruling party.

Governor Radda, in his keynote address, described the review as “a defining moment to renew and consolidate the institutional foundation of the APC.”

He said the exercise was especially significant to him, having served as a pioneer member of the APC National Working Committee and being part of the team that drafted the party’s first constitution under Chief John Oyegun.

“The APC gave many of us the platform to serve our people,” Radda stated. “It is therefore our collective duty to respect its constitution, strengthen its institutions, and uphold discipline within its ranks. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, our party continues to grow stronger through vision, planning, and purposeful governance.”

The Governor emphasized that the constitutional review must focus on principles rather than personalities, and renewal rather than division. He charged the North-West, described as the political heartland of the APC, to lead with integrity and foresight.

“Our aim must be to ensure credible primaries that reflect the will of grassroots members, promote accountability in leadership, encourage inclusivity for women, youth, and persons with disabilities, and embed ethical conduct in all party activities,” he said.

Radda, who also chairs the North-West Governors’ Forum, reaffirmed the collective support of APC governors in the region for the review process, describing it as key to building a more vibrant party capable of leading Nigeria toward peace, progress, and prosperity.

He paid glowing tribute to President Tinubu for his visionary leadership and to Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the APC National Chairman, for sustaining the reform agenda. Radda also hailed former President Muhammadu Buhari as “the moral compass and father of modern Nigerian democracy.”

Representing the Chairman of the APC Constitution Review Committee and Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, was Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba, Chairman of the Cross River State APC and South-South representative on the Committee.

Eba praised Governor Radda as “a symbol of hope for Nigeria’s next generation of leaders,” adding that the review was necessary to address structural gaps in the party’s framework.

“It is an anomaly that a Governor who completes his term would not automatically qualify as a member of the National Executive Committee,” he noted. “This and other gaps are what the current review seeks to address.”

He disclosed that the nationwide consultation, which began in April, has received hundreds of submissions centered on inclusiveness, transparency, and effective leadership — all geared toward producing a harmonized constitution ahead of the next National Convention.

Earlier, Katsina State APC Chairman, Alhaji Sani Aliyu Ahmed Daura, described the exercise as “a clear testament to the APC’s commitment to internal growth, unity, and long-term stability.”

He commended Governor Radda’s transformational leadership in Katsina State — particularly in education, health, agriculture, security, and social welfare — saying his achievements have restored confidence in both the state government and the party’s structures.

Goodwill messages came from Hon. Princess Miriam Odinaka Onuoha, member of the House of Representatives representing the South-East; the Speakers of Kebbi and Jigawa State Houses of Assembly; and the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Hon. Idris Muhammad Gobir, who represented his Governor.

Among dignitaries at the event were Senator Nasir Sani Zangon Daura, the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, members of the National and State Assemblies, all thirty-four local government chairmen, APC State Chair.
