Radda Acts: Standing Committee to Protect Public Assets

In response to rising theft and vandalism in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umar Radda has approved the establishment of a Standing Committee on the Protection of Public Properties. This move follows alarming reports of errant youths targeting public infrastructure, particularly electric installations.

Inaugurating the Committee on behalf of the Governor, Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, emphasized the government’s resolve to tackle the menace. “The State Government will not stand by idly while these acts of vandalism threaten to roll back our socio-economic progress,” Faskari declared.

Magajin Garin Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar Uba, representing the Daura Emirate Council on the Committee, called for strict penalties to deter offenders while advocating stakeholder engagement to curb the issue.

1. Launch public sensitization campaigns on the negative impacts of vandalism.

2. Collaborate with traditional, religious, and community leaders for youth guidance and counseling.

3. Engage with the Katsina State Iron Scavengers Association to enforce stricter rules on scrap metal handling.

4. Recommend solutions to the government to address the problem.

5. Co-opt relevant stakeholders and periodically report progress to the government.

The SGS chairs the Committee, with members drawn from various sectors, including law enforcement, traditional councils, civil society organizations, and government agencies. The Director of Security in the Governor’s Office, Alhaji Hamza Audi, serves as Secretary.

This decisive action underscores Governor Radda’s commitment to safeguarding public assets and ensuring socio-economic stability in Katsina State.
