The Police Service Commission PSC has issued a directive for all police officers aged 60 or those who have served for 35 years to proceed on retirement, in line with public service regulations.
The order, which affects senior officers across various ranks, is expected to pave the way for a fresh restructuring within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). Sources indicate that the move aligns with ongoing reforms to enhance efficiency and professionalism within the force.
A PSC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that affected officers have been notified and are expected to hand over their duties immediately.
“This is a standard procedure, and no one is exempted from the civil service retirement rule. The police must embrace new leadership and fresh ideas,” the official stated.
While some officers welcome the decision as necessary for rejuvenation, others express concerns over pending entitlements and the timing of the directive.
