In a bold call to action, renowned Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has urged Nigerians to take to the streets in peaceful protest against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Highlighting the power of public demonstrations, Gumi reminded citizens of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s protests against ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s government.
“Politicians are very stubborn; mass protests are the only thing that disturb them,” Gumi declared in a video message.
Drawing parallels to international conflicts, Gumi emphasized Nigeria’s unique diversity, asserting, “Protest is the only language the government understands.
“This call comes amid activist Omoyele Sowore’s push for a revolutionary protest in August, aiming to address the nation’s mounting hardships.
As tensions rise, Gumi’s message recalls the 2012 Occupy Nigeria protest, led by Tinubu and other APC chieftains against fuel subsidy removal.
“Nigeria needs a democratic revolution,” Tinubu once wrote, a sentiment Gumi and many Nigerians echo today.
