Tension gripped Danjanku in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State as scores of residents took to the streets to protest the growing wave of insecurity tormenting their community.
Eyewitnesses said the demonstrators, mostly youths and women, marched through the main roads chanting slogans and calling on the government to take urgent action against the incessant attacks by bandits and other criminal elements in the area.
The residents lamented that despite repeated complaints to security agencies, armed bandits continue to raid their farms and homes, leaving many injured and others displaced.
One of the protesters, who identified herself as Aisha Musa, told reporters that the community has lived in fear for months. “We can no longer sleep peacefully. Every night we hear gunshots, and people are being kidnapped or killed. We are tired of empty promises,” she said.
Another resident, a local youth leader, urged Governor Dikko Umar Radda and security operatives to intensify efforts to protect rural communities, saying that many families are now fleeing to neighboring villages for safety.
As of the time of this report, calm had reportedly been restored, though residents said they would continue to press for stronger government intervention.
Katsina State, like several parts of Nigeria’s North-West, has faced persistent security challenges, including armed banditry, kidnapping, and rural violence, leading to loss of lives and livelihoods.
