Governing Council Endorses Distinguished Agricultural Engineer After Rigorous Selection
The Governing Council of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Khalid Othman as the new substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution.
The announcement was made by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, His Excellency Ali Abubakar Jatau, shortly after the Council’s 36th Special Meeting held at the Grand Amber Hotel and Suites, Dutse, Jigawa State.
According to Jatau, Prof. Othman’s emergence followed a transparent and highly competitive selection process involving 17 shortlisted applicants out of 28 candidates who initially applied for the position. The process, he said, also included three additional nominees identified by the Council’s Search Team.
“At the end of a rigorous and transparent exercise, the Selection Board submitted the top three performing candidates to the Governing Council, which approved the appointment of Professor Othman as the new Vice Chancellor,” the Chairman explained.
Born on 22nd July, 1962, in Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Prof. Othman is a renowned Agricultural Engineer and scholar with decades of experience in teaching, research, and university administration.
He began his educational journey at Bindawa Primary School (1970–1977), attended Government Secondary School, Funtua (1977–1982), and later proceeded to the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria (1982–1983).
Prof. Othman obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in Agricultural Engineering from ABU Zaria between 1984 and 2007, marking an illustrious academic path that later led him to several leadership roles.
A seasoned academic and administrator, he rose through the ranks from Assistant Lecturer to full Professor, and previously served as Executive Director of the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS) at ABU Zaria. Until his appointment, he was an internal member of FUDMA’s Governing Council, representing the University Senate.
Known for his dedication to research and agricultural innovation, Prof. Othman’s appointment has been widely welcomed within academic circles as a move that promises to strengthen FUDMA’s commitment to excellence and innovation in higher education.
The new Vice Chancellor is happily married and blessed with nine children.
