The Nigerian Army University Biu NAUB in Borno State has entered a new era of leadership as Professor Lawal Bala Buratai formally assumed office as the third substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution, amid warmth, optimism, and high expectations.
The historic handover ceremony, held at the university’s premises in Biu, followed Professor Buratai’s appointment by the University Governing Council during its 5th Special Meeting on April 16, 2025, at the Armed Forces Officers Mess and Suites, Abuja.
Welcomed with admiration by the university community, Professor Buratai was received by the University Overseer and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Military), Brigadier General JT Aun, who described the occasion as long-awaited and momentous. He noted that the distinguished entourage accompanying the new Vice Chancellor underscored the strong support Professor Buratai commands across academic and military spheres.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba, praised the warm reception accorded to the team and offered prayers for the continued advancement of the university. Similarly, Dr. Mohammed Alhaji Audu, representing the University Governing Council, commended the seamless transition and urged all stakeholders to rally behind the new leadership for the university’s growth.
The day’s activities included a closed-door strategy meeting, a formal handover ceremony at the VC’s Conference Hall, and the official handing and taking over of office responsibilities.
In his parting remarks, Brigadier General Aun expressed gratitude to the University Governing Council for the trust reposed in him during his brief tenure from April 8 to April 25, 2025.
Delivering his inaugural address, Professor Buratai thanked the Almighty for the opportunity to serve and pledged to foster a leadership style rooted in unity, openness, and collaboration.
“As the new Vice Chancellor, I consider everybody as my own. All I need from you is your support and cooperation,” he said. “My administration will maintain an open-door policy, ensuring dialogue and teamwork to drive the university to greater heights.”
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic group photograph, capturing a defining moment in the journey of Nigerian Army University Biu.
