Prince Ado Ibrahim, Adama Indimi Return to Court Over Child Custody Battle

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sharia Court of Appeal in Abuja has fixed October 28 for the hearing of motions in the child custody dispute between Prince Abdulmalik Ado Ibrahim and his ex-wife, Adama Indimi.

Prince Ado Ibrahim, son of the late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in Kogi State, is challenging the decision of the lower Sharia court in Gudu, which granted his former wife certain interim custody rights and financial entitlements.

Adama Indimi, daughter of billionaire businessman Mohammed Indimi, had sought full custody of their only child following their divorce on August 26, 2024, at the Upper Area Court in Gudu, Abuja. She also requested a monthly upkeep allowance of $2,000 and ₦100,000, in addition to payment for a nanny, school fees, and travel documentation for the child.

Prince Ado’s legal team, however, counter-offered ₦1 million monthly instead of the dollar-denominated request, proposing to handle school fees and related expenses directly. His lawyers also accused the lower court of bias after it ordered him to submit six months’ bank statements and granted other motions favoring his ex-wife.

The case has drawn public attention due to the high-profile status of both parties. At the last sitting, the three-member panel led by Grand Khadi Ibrahim Rufai Imam adjourned proceedings to October 28 for the hearing of all pending motions and counter-affidavits.

Meanwhile, a related motion for a bench warrant against Prince Ado is expected to be heard on October 27 at the Kado Area Court.

The custody battle continues to stir conversations about family rights, Islamic legal interpretation, and privacy concerns in high-profile marital disputes.
