Police Warn Against Lobbying for Promotions, Debunks Online Claims of Arbitrary Elevations

Katsina state government

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning against lobbying for special promotions, cautioning both officers and the public to disregard misleading reports suggesting arbitrary elevation within its ranks.

In a statement dated August 7, 2025 (Ref No. CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/481), the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, debunked claims circulating on some online platforms that the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission were granting promotions based on favoritism or pressure.

According to the statement, the recent batch of accelerated promotions followed a structured reward system aimed at recognizing officers for bravery, professionalism, and exceptional service—not lobbying.

“The promotion process remains rooted in merit, transparency, and due process. Officers lobbying for personal elevation risk severe disciplinary sanctions,” Adejobi warned.

He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to fairness and integrity, urging personnel to stay disciplined and devoted to service.
