The Akwa Ibom State Police Command turned the streets of Uyo into a symbol of unity and safety as Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Baba Azare, led a high-energy walkathon to mark Day Two of the 2026 National Police Week.
The peace walk, which kicked off from the Command Headquarters to the bustling Ibom Plaza, drew a large turnout of officers, sister security agencies, and key stakeholders in a powerful show of solidarity for public safety.
Personnel from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) joined the exercise, alongside civil society groups and corporate bodies including Ibom Air and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The walkathon, held under the theme “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” was aimed at boosting police visibility, strengthening public confidence, and showcasing the fitness and readiness of officers.
Addressing participants, CP Azare stressed that the initiative reflects the Command’s commitment to community-oriented policing, assuring residents that the police remain accessible, responsive, and fully dedicated to safeguarding lives and property.
He commended the collaboration of security agencies and stakeholders, describing it as a clear demonstration of unity in the collective fight for peace.
The police boss also urged residents to speak up on security concerns, promising prompt and professional response—reaffirming that effective policing thrives on trust and partnership with the people.
