POLICE STORM MKPAT ENIN HIDEOUT, RECOVER PUMP-ACTION RIFLE, ARREST TWO SUSPECTS

Borno State Government

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has scored another breakthrough in its relentless war against violent crime, recovering dangerous weapons and arresting two suspects during a targeted raid in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

In a press release issued Thursday, the Command disclosed that the operation was carried out on February 18, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m., following credible intelligence on the hideout of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Abasiama Ekot, popularly known as “Dombary,” from Ikot Ekop in Mkpat Enin.

Police sources revealed that the suspect had earlier been linked to several armed robbery incidents and was recently seen in a viral social media video allegedly inciting violence and terrorising residents within Mkpat Enin and surrounding communities.

However, upon sighting the operatives closing in, the principal suspect reportedly fled before the team arrived at the premises. Two other suspects found at the location were apprehended after a brief chase.

The arrested suspects were identified as:
Happiness Essien, 19
Mathew Akpan, 31
Items recovered from the hideout include:
One automatic pump-action rifle
One locally fabricated shotgun
Four machetes
Substances suspected to be Indian hemp, “ice,” and cocaine
One generator

Police authorities said the arrested suspects are already assisting investigators with useful information, while efforts have intensified to track down the fleeing kingpin and dismantle any criminal network linked to him.

The Commissioner of Police reassured residents of Mkpat Enin and the entire state that the Command remains committed to intelligence-driven operations aimed at protecting lives and property.

“We will not relent,” the statement emphasized, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

The press release was signed by DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, for the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command.
