Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have foiled a cult initiation ceremony in Uyo, arresting two suspected members and recovering a firearm in a swift intelligence-led operation.
The dramatic crackdown, which took place around noon on March 20, 2026, targeted an uncompleted building off Oron Road, where members of the notorious Red Skin Confraternity were reportedly carrying out initiation rites.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspects fled on sighting the patrol team, triggering a hot pursuit by the operatives.
The chase ended with the arrest of two suspects identified as Clement Edem and Isaac Henry.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, further confirming their alleged involvement in criminal activities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo are active members of the cult group and were undergoing initiation before the police swooped in.
The suspects have also reportedly provided useful intelligence, including identities of other members who escaped during the raid.
Police authorities say efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle the network.
Reaffirming its zero tolerance for cultism, the Command warned criminal elements to steer clear of unlawful activities or face the full force of the law. Parents and guardians were also urged to closely monitor their children and discourage involvement in cult-related acts.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, assured residents of continued vigilance and commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Akwa Ibom.
