In a bold push to reinforce security across Borno State, the Nigeria Police Force has joined hands with community stakeholders in a landmark forum aimed at tackling crime and insurgency through collective action.
Convened at the Zone 15 Headquarters in Maiduguri, the high-level engagement—led by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie—brought together a broad coalition of community leaders, security actors, and civil society groups to chart a united path toward lasting peace.
AIG Onwuemelie underscored the forum’s significance in realizing the Nigeria Police Force’s national goal of reducing crime by 40% in 2025. “Progress has been made, but threats like banditry, kidnapping, and youth restiveness demand a united front,” he said. “Only through trust, collaboration, and grassroots vigilance can we secure our communities.”
From Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) operatives and transport union leaders to hoteliers, women’s groups, students, and GSM operators, participants explored practical steps to detect and deter threats, strengthen early warning systems, and improve information flow between law enforcement and the public.
Speakers praised the resilience of Borno residents and pledged deeper cooperation through regular briefings, documentation protocols, and education-based prevention strategies.
“Security starts at home and grows through unity,” Onwuemelie told attendees. “Together, we can make Borno inhospitable to crime and welcoming to peace.”
The forum ended with renewed commitment to community policing and a shared vision of a safer, more secure Borno State.
