Police Smash Vandalism Syndicate in Akwa Ibom, Arrest Suspected Receiver, Recover Stolen Items

Katsina state government

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing clampdown on vandalism and theft, recovering stolen items and arresting a suspected criminal receiver in Ikot Ekpene.

Acting on credible intelligence and confessions from a previously arrested suspect, officers stormed a notorious black spot at No. 56 Aba Road, Ikot Ekpene, at about 3:45 PM on July 28, 2025. The raid led to the recovery of several vandalized items, including electric wires and an iron protector — allegedly stolen from the abandoned Chambers of Commerce building on Etokebe Street.

Further probing led the operatives to another premises along the same Aba Road, where Mr. Elijah Etim Nyah, a resident of Okonna Street, was arrested. He is suspected to be a receiver of the stolen items.

A search of his shop yielded cut-to-size PHED electric cables, various sizes of burnt and peeled copper wires, and cut aluminum roofing sheets — all believed to be linked to acts of vandalism and property theft.

Police say investigations are ongoing, with more arrests likely.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the operation in a statement, assuring the public that the police remain committed to flushing out criminal elements across the state.
