Police Smash Armed Robbery Syndicate in Uyo, Recover Firearm and Motorcycle

Katsina state government

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has busted a notorious three-man armed robbery syndicate terrorizing residents of Uyo metropolis, recovering a firearm, motorcycle, and dangerous weapon from the suspects.

The breakthrough followed a complaint by a 32-year-old woman who was robbed at gunpoint during a morning walk along Believers Assembly Road by Udo Udoma Avenue on August 12, 2025. Armed with a locally-made pistol, two men on a black motorcycle dispossessed her of an iPhone 12 Pro worth ₦650,000.

Police investigations revealed that the syndicate had robbed at least five other victims on the same day, targeting residents during early morning hours.

Acting on intelligence, operatives arrested Ubong Michael Patrick, 27, from Ikpa Ibiono community, Ibiono Ibom LGA. His confession led to the capture of his accomplices: Ibrahim Kanu, 20, from Gorore, Adamawa State, and Nazipi Dahiru, 25, from Gombe State. Both reside in Nassarawa, Itu LGA.

Command spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, reassured residents of Uyo that security forces remain committed to protecting lives and property. He urged citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
