Police Smash Armed Robbery Gang in Akwa Ibom, Arrest Seven, Recover Weapons, Charms

Katsina state government

A decisive operation, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate that has long terrorized Ikot Ekpene and surrounding communities.

The breakthrough followed the killing of a key gang member during a foiled robbery and the capture of the overall leader in Imo State. His confession led investigators to the syndicate’s operational base — a hideout doubling as a shrine for alleged “spiritual fortification” in Ikot Osong village, Obot Akara LGA.

At about 2:30 a.m. on August 8, police stormed the compound, arresting seven suspects:
David Effiong Silas (aka “Davido”), 29; Etido Udo Lazarus, 26; Etimbuk Thursday Udofia (female), 25; Ime Effiong Silas (aka “Udo Doctor”), 27; Joseph John Nelson, 31; Nduese Solomon John, 32; and Imo Effiong Udofia, 22.

Recovered items include a locally made double-barrel gun, ammunition, five motorcycles, a bicycle, three face masks, army camouflage and police caps, multiple mobile phones, power banks, and suspected charms with a mysterious liquid.

Police say investigations are ongoing to track down fleeing members and recover additional stolen property. The Command reiterated its resolve to keep residents safe and urged the public to remain vigilant.
