Tension is mounting in Murish village, Mangu LGA, following the rustling of 55 cows by suspected local youths, with one young herder still unaccounted for.
According to intelligence sources, the attack occurred around 4:00 p.m. on April 9, when about 30 unidentified youths ambushed two Fulani herders and drove the cattle into the bush. Police say Abdullahi Suleiman, 21, one of the herders, has been missing since the incident.
Responding swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer in Mangu led patrol teams into the area, successfully recovering 11 cows. Search efforts are ongoing to retrieve the remaining 44 cattle and rescue the missing herder.
In a bid to de-escalate tensions, the Area Commander in Pankshin has relocated to Mangu to oversee the situation and coordinate dialogue with local leaders.
The Plateau State Police Command has vowed to intensify efforts to apprehend the culprits and restore calm in the community.
