The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the conduct of some of its personnel caught on camera assaulting a motorist during a stop-and-search operation in Lagos. The viral video, which sparked outrage among Nigerians, showed officers attempting to forcibly remove a pair of glasses from the driver before physically assaulting him.
The officers involved have since been identified as operatives attached to the Lagos State Police Command. According to police authorities, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command immediately intervened, ordering disciplinary measures against the errant officers and restructuring the squad responsible.
In a statement, the Force described the incident as “isolated,” stressing that it does not reflect the professionalism expected of its personnel. The leadership reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, vowing to hold accountable “the very few” whose actions tarnish the image of thousands of hardworking officers.
The police assured the public of its commitment to fairness, professionalism, and respect for human rights in all engagements.
