UYO — In a renewed offensive against drug-related crimes, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has raided a suspected drug den in Itam, recovering substances believed to be hard drugs and dangerous weapons.
The operation, carried out at Ntak Inyang along the busy Calabar–Itu Road on February 14, 2026, at about 11:35am, led to the arrest of one suspect identified as Akin Robert, male, from Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Police operatives, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, stormed the location following credible intelligence reports.
During a search conducted at the scene, officers recovered a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, a dagger, a pair of scissors and the sum of ₦46,500, believed to be proceeds from illicit drug sales.
The suspect was immediately apprehended and taken into custody for further investigation.The Command described the raid as part of sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure public safety across communities.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the Command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against drug trafficking and other criminal activities capable of threatening peace and stability in the state.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property. We urge residents to continue providing credible and timely information to assist ongoing operations,” the statement read.
Security analysts say the Calabar–Itu corridor has witnessed increased monitoring in recent months due to its strategic importance as a transit route.
The latest raid underscores the Command’s determination to clamp down on drug networks and dismantle criminal hideouts across the state.
Residents of Itam have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention aimed at restoring sanity and protecting youths from the dangers of substance abuse.
Police authorities assured that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of preliminary inquiries.
With this latest breakthrough, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has again signalled its readiness to confront criminality head-on as it intensifies its campaign to keep the state safe.
