Police Pay Tribute to Fallen Heroes with Over ₦53m Lifeline

Borno State Government

In a moving tribute that blended grief with gratitude, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has disbursed over ₦53.7 million to families of 34 fallen officers, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to those left behind.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, led the solemn ceremony as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day celebration, presenting cheques worth ₦53,755,844.94 on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

Addressing the gathering, CP Azare described the occasion as a poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifices made by officers who laid down their lives in service to the nation.

He stressed that the fallen personnel stood firm in the face of danger, ensuring the safety of citizens at great personal cost.

“The cheques being presented today are not mere financial instruments,” Azare declared. “They symbolize our collective gratitude and a firm assurance that the sacrifices of our fallen heroes will never be forgotten.”

He assured the bereaved families that the Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in supporting them, noting that no compensation can truly replace the lives lost, but the gesture reflects a renewed resolve to prioritize welfare.

In a charge to serving officers, Azare urged renewed dedication, discipline, and professionalism, reminding them that policing demands courage—and sometimes, the ultimate sacrifice.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Michael Michael Urua expressed deep appreciation, praising the Police for standing by the families in their time of need.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for the repose of the departed officers and strength for the families they left behind—an enduring reminder that while the heroes may be gone, their legacy lives on.
