Police Nab Suspect, Recover Rifle in Crackdown on Cultism, Robbery

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its fight against cultism and armed robbery, arresting another suspect and seizing more weapons linked to an ongoing criminal investigation.

According to the Command, operatives acting on fresh intelligence stormed Ikot Ekop/Ataifa community in Etinan Local Government Area at about 4:00 a.m. on September 3, 2025. The raid led to the recovery of one single-barrel rifle, four live cartridges, and five expended cartridges.

During the operation, police also arrested Bassey Dennis Bassey, a suspected member of the criminal gang under investigation.

This development follows an earlier breakthrough on August 27, 2025, when officers recovered a locally made pistol as part of the same case.

Police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to flushing out cultists, armed robbers, and other violent groups from the state. She assured that efforts are ongoing to track down more suspects and recover additional firearms.
