The Nigeria Police Force, Yobe State Police Command, has recorded a case of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) involving alleged sexual assault and substance abuse, leading to the arrest of a suspect.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkareem, the Command disclosed that on January 26, 2026, at about 12:30 hours, operatives of the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters arrested one Aliyu Yarima, aged 35 years, of Potiskum Local Government Area, following a distress report.
Preliminary investigation revealed that on January 16, 2026, the suspect allegedly invited a 16-year-old female (name withheld) of Babbangida town and offered her a beverage suspected to have been mixed with illicit substances, which caused her to become unwell.
The suspect allegedly conveyed the victim to his residence in Babbangida town, where she was reportedly sexually assaulted.
Due to her health condition, the victim was unable to immediately report the incident until her condition worsened. Upon receipt of the report, police operatives promptly took the victim to the General Hospital, Babbangida, where medical examination was conducted and the case was documented.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, psc, fdc, has condemned the alleged act and directed an immediate, thorough, and discreet investigation to ensure that justice is served.
The Command reiterates its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and urges members of the public to promptly report cases of sexual abuse, substance-related offences, and other criminal activities to the nearest police station.
Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court upon its conclusion.
