Security operatives have arrested Sirajo Ahmad Dan Liman, Deputy Chief Imam of the Central Jumu’ah Mosque in Kangiye, Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, over alleged collaboration with armed bandits.
According to security sources, intelligence investigations linked Sirajo to the supply of motorcycles and other essential items to bandits operating along the Tangaza–Niger Republic border. Operatives reportedly uncovered N47 million in his bank account, suspected to be proceeds from the illicit dealings.
Sirajo, who also doubles as the ward chairman of a political party in Atakwanyo and secretary of the forum of political party chairmen in Gwadabawa LGA, is known for leading sermons during Ramadan and often standing in for his father, the Chief Imam, at Friday prayers.
Authorities said the arrest marks a significant step in dismantling the financial and logistical lifelines of banditry in Sokoto and neighbouring states.
