The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a notorious one-chance suspect allegedly responsible for the kidnap and brutal murder of a 23-year-old fuel attendant, Miss Grace Godwin, in Abuja.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Kabiru Abdullahi, a native of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, was arrested by operatives of the Scorpion Squad led by ACP Victor O. Godfrey after a coordinated operation based on credible digital and reconstructive intelligence.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the tragic incident occurred on July 11, 2025, when the victim boarded a commercial taxi unknowingly operated by members of a one-chance gang. After abducting her, the suspects demanded ransom from her family before killing her and dumping her body along Alex Ekwueme Street, Jabi. Her lifeless body was found the following day.
During interrogation, Abdullahi confessed to strangling Miss Godwin with a nylon bag after she bit his finger in self-defense. He admitted that the gang decided to kill her out of fear that she could identify them, as they all lived within Dape village.
Further investigations led to the identification of another suspect, 35-year-old Solomon Tanko, who had earlier been arrested at Life Camp on October 8, 2025, in connection with another one-chance robbery and murder case.
Police sources confirmed that both suspects have confessed to the heinous crime, and a golden-coloured Toyota Camry (pencil light) used in the operation has been recovered as an exhibit.
The FCT Commissioner of Police has ordered the expansion of the investigation to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and ensure that all those involved face justice.
The arrest has sparked relief among residents of the capital city, who have long complained about the resurgence of violent one-chance operations along major routes such as Jabi, Life Camp, and Gwarinpa.
Meanwhile, the Police Command reiterated its commitment to intensifying patrols and deploying intelligence assets to dismantle criminal gangs threatening the safety of residents in the nation’s capital.
