The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected human trafficker, identified as 47-year-old Alex Omosivie from Edo State, who has been accused of luring young women into prostitution across African countries.
Omosivie was picked up by operatives of the Command on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, around 9:30 a.m. at a hotel along Ring Road 3, Uyo, following credible intelligence on his illegal activities. Two victims were rescued during the operation.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect, who was previously deported from an African country, recently trafficked two sisters, 18-year-old Odo Asuquo Asuquo and 16-year-old Glory Asuquo Asuquo, to Libya and Burkina Faso, respectively.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting he received ₦50,000 per victim. Parents of the trafficked sisters have been contacted to assist with further investigation.
Police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed that Omosivie remains in custody while efforts are underway to track down his accomplices.
