Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of a notorious cultist and armed robbery suspect, Inima Sunday Akpan, who has long terrorized residents of Ikot Ekpene and nearby communities.
The suspect, a native of Abak Itiat Ikwuk Village in Ini LGA, was picked up on Thursday, August 14, 2025, around 7:00 PM, after operatives stormed his hideout in Ibiaku Village near Uyo City Polytechnic, acting on credible intelligence.
Akpan, who has a history of violent robberies across Ikot Otor, Ikot Uboh, and Ikot Osurua — including a recent attack that left a lawyer shot and several others injured — had been on the run while other members of his gang were earlier apprehended.
A search of his hideout led to the recovery of several stolen items, including:
- A repainted Daylong motorcycle (originally red, now black)
- A 32-inch Itec television
- An LG home theater system
- An amplifier
- A foam mattress
Police say the suspect has confessed to his crimes and further investigations are underway.
DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, assured the public that the Command remains committed to flushing out criminals and ensuring the safety of residents across Akwa Ibom State.
