Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State have recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected arms fabricator and recovery of locally made firearms in Uruan Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Umo Udoh, was apprehended on March 18, 2026, in Ibiaku Uruan Village following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance by the Command.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Udoh is a key figure in illegal arms production, allegedly involved in fabricating firearms and training other suspects earlier arrested by the police. Authorities confirmed that the suspect has confessed to the crime.
Items recovered from him include a Dane gun, a dismantled single-barrel gun, and a gun butt—further exposing the scale of illicit weapons manufacturing within the area.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to dismantle all illegal arms networks and bring perpetrators to justice.
He warned individuals involved in unlawful arms fabrication, possession, or distribution to desist immediately or face the full force of the law, stressing that there will be no hiding place for criminal elements in the state.
The Command disclosed that investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate, while calling on residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
The latest operation underscores the police’s intensified efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and sustain peace across Akwa Ibom State.
